The Birch Bay Watershed and Aquatic Resources Management (BBWARM) District Citizen Advisory Committee will host a presentation on the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit and Program at their monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 19th. The information will be presented by Whatcom County Public Works Stormwater Division staff.

The NPDES Permit addresses stormwater runoff from areas designated through U.S. Census data and is administered by local governments to meet requirements from the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology). In June 2012, Ecology decided to include the Birch Bay Urban Growth Area (UGA) in Whatcom County’s NPDES Permit area beginning August 1, 2013.

The presentation will include an overview of the NPDES Program, the requirements and deadlines of the Permit, how the County meets those requirements, and what it means for the Birch Bay UGA to be included under the Permit. Interested members of the Birch Bay community are encouraged to attend the meeting. For more information on Whatcom County’s NPDES program visit www.npdes.whatcomcounty.org.
